Where Everything Is Starting to Take Shape

For a long time, building the ranch felt like living inside constant motion.

Every new week brought another round of decisions, another delivery, another conversation about timelines, materials, revisions, or what still needed to happen next. Progress was everywhere... but so much of it still required imagination.

You had to picture what the rooms would feel like.

Picture how the light would move.

Picture how the spaces would connect.

Picture the life that might one day unfold there.

Lately, though, something has changed.

The ranch is beginning to reveal itself.

Not as renderings or ideas anymore...

but as something real, tangible, and unmistakably ours.

The floors were the first major shift.

Once the wood began running continuously through the house, everything softened. The architecture no longer felt fragmented or overly skeletal. The rooms suddenly related to one another differently. Spaces that once felt large and unfinished started carrying warmth and rhythm.

Then the cabinetry arrived.

And with it came personality.

The blue cabinetry in the butler’s pantry especially stopped me for a moment. The brass mesh fronts, the warmth of the floors beneath them, the way the morning light moved across the room... it finally felt like the vision we had been carrying around for so long was beginning to exist outside our heads.

Not perfect.

Not finished.

But real.

That may be the strangest part of this stage of building...

You stop evaluating construction... and begin recognizing home.

Outside, the same transformation is happening across the property.

The circular drive has completely changed the approach to the ranch. What once felt like open land and active construction now feels intentional and established. The curves of the drive slow you down as you arrive, almost asking you to transition with it.

The buildings themselves are changing too. As siding, stone, rooflines, and materials continue coming together, the ranch is beginning to develop identity. Not just scale or architecture... character.

And quietly waiting nearby is the foundation for the greenhouse, where construction begins May 18.

At the moment, it’s simply concrete and open space.

But standing there, I realized the greenhouse may represent one of the most important parts of this entire journey.

The house is where we will live.

The greenhouse is about how we want to live.

More connected to the land.

More aware of seasons.

More intentional with our time.

More rooted in the simple act of caring for something and watching it grow.

I don’t think I fully understood when we started this project that building a ranch would also reshape parts of me.

At first, I thought we were creating a beautiful home in the countryside.

Now I realize we were slowly building a different relationship with life itself.

Recently, I took a photo of Shon standing quietly in one of the open doorways while the morning light poured through the house behind him. Looking at it later, it felt symbolic of this entire season we’re in.

Not standing at the beginning anymore.

Not fully at the finish either.

But somewhere meaningful in between.

The place where vision starts becoming reality.

Where ideas become spaces.

Where plans become atmosphere.

Where everything begins to take shape.
