Bringing the Vision to Life: Architectural Highlights of The Essex Ranch
Where Vision Meets Heart
When we first dreamed of The Essex Ranch, it wasn’t just about building a house—it was about creating a place that embodies everything we value: family, connection, and a deep respect for nature. Every beam, every design decision, every detail carries intention. This is more than architecture—it’s our story, etched into the land.
Some spaces are already becoming the heart of this project: the glass corridors that bring the outdoors in, the sanctuary garden that offers peace and reflection, and the greenhouse that combines beauty and purpose. Today, I’m excited to share how these elements are shaping the soul of The Essex Ranch.
The Glass Corridors: Framing Connection
The glass corridors are one of my favorite architectural elements, and not just because they’re stunning. Walking through these hallways will feel like stepping into nature itself. With floor-to-ceiling glass on both sides, they are designed to blur the line between inside and out.
I imagine strolling through these corridors, catching a glimpse of deer grazing near the lake or watching the sunrise paint the fields in golden light. These spaces reflect our commitment to keeping nature at the heart of The Essex Ranch.

But the glass corridors mean more to me than just design. They represent transparency and connection—reminders of how far we’ve come in building not just a ranch, but a legacy for our family.
The Sanctuary Garden: A Quiet Retreat
Just beyond the glass corridors lies what I call the sanctuary garden. This space is designed to feel like a retreat within a retreat—a private oasis where life slows down, and peace takes over.
Anchored by a pergola, the garden will feature two oversized bed swings for lazy afternoons or stargazing nights. A fireplace will add warmth, and a water feature will bring the soothing sound of flowing water. Plants and greenery will fill the space, creating a living, breathing extension of the ranch.
This is where I picture family gatherings, quiet moments with Shon, and perhaps even a spot for Ladybird to lounge in the shade. The sanctuary garden will be a place to pause, reflect, and reconnect. It’s a reminder that even in the midst of building something big, there’s beauty in the quiet spaces.

The Greenhouse: A Place of Growth
If the sanctuary garden is a retreat, the greenhouse is where life flourishes. Equal parts practical and elegant, the greenhouse will serve as a kitchen garden, filled with herbs, fruits, and vegetables grown right here on the ranch.
For me, the greenhouse symbolizes more than just sustainability—it’s a place of growth, not only for the plants but for us as well. I can already see myself gathering ingredients for a meal, Shon tinkering with something in the corner, or the kids cutting fresh flowers during their visits.
This space will be a beautiful reminder of our commitment to living in harmony with the land while ensuring The Essex Ranch remains vibrant and full of life.

Designing a Legacy, One Space at a Time
Every detail of The Essex Ranch has been a labor of love. From the sweeping views framed by the glass corridors to the tranquility of the sanctuary garden and the functionality of the greenhouse, these spaces are more than architectural highlights—they are extensions of who we are.
Shon and I often talk about how The Essex Ranch is as much about building for the future as it is about living fully in the present. It’s a journey of patience, resilience, and imagination. Each day brings us closer to the dream, and I’m reminded of how grateful I am to share this with all of you.
